About This Recipe

Potato Gratin are the ultimate French potatoes, thinly sliced potatoes baked in a cream and garlic sauce. The potatoes are then topped with a hard Italian cheese to form the crust (Gratin).

You can top the potatoes with any number of different cheese but i do like a strong Italian cheese for this recipe.

This Potato Gratin will add another dimension to any meal as an alternative to Mash Potato or Chips. ...

    How to make Potato Gratin

    ingredients

    400g slightly starchy potatoes
    50 ml of Milk
    100 ml Single Cream
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1/8 teaspoon of Salt (Large Pinch)
    1/2 teaspoon of Nutmeg
    1 teaspoon of chopped garlic
    40g of Hard Italian Cheese

    Cooking Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 400F / 200C.
    2. Slice the potatoes thin with a sharp knife or use a Mandolin slicer (2mm)
    3. In a bowl mix together the Milk & Cream then season with the Salt, Pepper, Nutmeg & Garlic.
    4. Put the potato slices into the mixture to coat them, then spread the potato slices into a suitable size oven dish and pour the rest of the milk mixture onto the potatoes.
    5. Cover the potatoes with the grated cheese then cover with foil and put the dish into the oven and cook for 35 minutes.
    6. When the Gratin is cooked remove the foil and cook the dish on 200c, near the top of the oven until the Gratin is nicely brown on the top. (10 Minutes).

    You can try different cheese with this for a different flavour. I would recomend sticking to a hard Italian cheese.
