Italian Lasagne
Ingredients :
  • 3 sheets of fresh pasta
For the Bolognese : 
  • 350 g fresh minced beef
  • Olive Oil
  • 5 g of plain flour
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp of lazy garlic
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 30 ml Tomato Paste
  • 1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 15 ml  of ketchup
For the Sauce : 
  • 400 ml milk (Warm)
  • 45 g of butter
  • 30 g of plain flour
  • 150 g Grated Cheese

     ' Probably the Iconic Italian dish , Lasagne. There are many different recipes for making this Italian Lasagne . But one thing is for sure , if your going to make this then you have to make your own pasta.

Classic bolognese in a rich tomato sauce and a thick creamy bechamel. 

This dish served with garlic bread is a must... ' 

 
Method : 
For the Bolognese : 
  • Dice up your onion and add the lazy garlic to it, mix together . 
  • Grind up the stock cube with the Smoked Paprika
  • Fry off the onions & Garlic in a pan with a splash of olive oil until soft, about 15 minutes.
  • When the onions are soft , add the minced beef and fry until it is cooked. You can chop this up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
  • Add the dry ingredients, starting with the paprika & Stock cube mix, then add the flour.
  • Mix this up well and let the flavour cook into the meat.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, Ketchup & Tomato Paste
  • leave this to cook for around 15 minutes on a low heat.
  • Cover and set aside.
For the Sauce : 
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan. 
  • Add the flour to the melted butter, and mix.
  • Then add the 400 ml of warm milk , keep cooking and whisk continually.
  • Mix in the cheese until melted.
  • Cover and set the sauce aside.
Putting the Lasagne together : 
  • In a greased oven dish , place the first sheet of pasta to fit. 
  • Add a good quantity of bolognese , then add the second pasta sheet on top . cut to fit.
  • It is a nice idea to add a layer of cheese slices on top of the first layer of bolognese.
  • Add another layer of bolognese , and finally cover with the last pasta sheet, being careful not to leave any corners sticking up.
  • Cover with a generous amount (if not all) of the cheese sauce.
  • Cover with foil before cooking
  • Back in a preheated oven @ 180 c for approx. 35 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and continue cooking for another 10 minutes.

 ' Serve this with some home made , cheesy garlic bread..... '
