Cowbridge kitchen is located in the heart of Cowbridge :
Where is Cowbridge ( Y Bont-faen) ?
Cowbridge is an ancient market town in the Vale of Glamorgan , just outside of Cardiff and Bridgend, South Wales. Packed full with lots of local shops from Supermarkets to Antique establishments. Most importantly there are lots of food outlets and local pubs in Cowbridge.
My name is Jon Noble and I have lived in Cowbridge for 6 years now, and I can't imagine ever moving away from this town. There is so much going on In and around Cowbridge that is has become an institution for the food trade.
Cowbridge Events and Traditions:
There is an annual Cowbridge Food & Drink festival held in on the 24th & 25th of May each year. You will be able to find a massive selection of Beers and Food from all around Wales and surrounding areas, including some of my own Recipes.
As you walk through the main street just up on the left hand side, close to the farmers market there is a pub called 'The Duke of Wellington' they serve great traditional pub food here. But better still is that if you take a left and cross the road you will find Cowbridge Physic Gardens.
The Physic Gardens in Cowbridge are a special space, where couples often have their wedding photographs taken. My wife and I had some of our pictures taken here.
There are lots of secret places to find in the gardens, every time I go there I come across something new, a little door I have not seen before or even the local Library. It is just up on the left of this picture, a beautiful setting for a library.
The gardens are a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the summer sun or just watch the Autumn leaves blowing around the pond.
Just outside of the gardens you are back on the busy main street and in the heart of this ancient market town where you will find some of the Oldest local pubs and Hotels.
Some Local Businesses &
The Local Hospitality :
As we mentioned earlier, here in Cowbridge we have a lot of local pubs and eating establishments. Here are two or three that we often frequent.
The Duke of Wellington is a Brains pub right in the heart of Cowbridge, in fact right next door to the Physic Garden. They serve great pub food and often offer live music and events. The Duke is a hot spot on a Friday and Saturday night and a quiet local pub the rest of the week.
Directly opposite is the Old World Vale of Glamorgan Inn.This place is great it's character changes from day to night. In the daytime it offers lovely pub grub and a nice quiet old fashioned pub atmosphere. In the evening it is packed with locals from all around the area, in for a great night of local beers and a roaring log burner. This place also has a great beer garden out the back.
The main Hotel in Cowbridge is 'The Bear Hotel' It is slap bang in the center of this ancient market town and it has the best outside space to the rear which is the venue for many weddings, including my own.
Just off the beaten path are the Cowbridge Fields & Park. Running through the center of the fields is the River Thaw, this river runs straight through the heart of Cowbridge.
The river is a feature of of Cowbridge and runs along side the Esplanade where you will find some nice local shops.
As you walk along the esplanade you will wind up at the aptly named 'River View Chinese Restaurant' which offers great Chinese food along with a beautiful view of the river Thaw.
On the other side of the river there is a Children's Park with lots of great activities such as climbing frames, swings, slides & Seesaws. My son used to love this park when he was younger, now he is in high school.
Cowbridge also has one of the best Comprehensive Schools in the area, take a look at their website here.
The School has undergone a lot of renovation in recent times but the old sixth form building is still standing.
The building was constructed in 1896 and was originally an all girls school, so it is over 120 years old. Today the old school building looks more like something from a Harry Potter film.
