Sprouts Roasted with Nuts

You either love them or hate them, but sprouts are a traditional part of any Christmas lunch.

When it comes to cooking Sprouts many people think that the only option is to boil or steam them, but this is not the case.

If you use your imagination Sprouts don't have to be boring. In this recipe we have part cooked the sprouts then mixed them up with some assorted nuts and roasted them in the oven.

The flavour of the roasted nuts infuse with the sprouts and completely change the flavour.

    Mixed nuts and Roast Sprouts

    If your a lover of Sprouts then you are going to love this idea of roasting them in the oven with a mixture of nuts, if your not a lover of Sprouts then there is nothing I can ever do to change your mind.

    Sprouts for me shout Christmas and Festive food, so I have presented this Roast Sprout recipe as a Christmas treat, and to show you that Sprouts do not need to be boring.

    ingredients

    500 - 600 g of fresh Sprouts
    100 g of Mixed Nuts
    100 g of Bacon Lardons (or chopped bacon)
    Salt & Pepper

    Cooking Instructions

    1. Bring a pan of salted water to the boil , then add the Sprouts and simmer for 10 minutes so that the sprouts are just cooked.
    2. Drain the sprouts into a colander and allow them to air dry.
    3. While the Sprouts are drying , put the bacon lardons into a frying pan and fry for a few minutes so that the bacon starts to produce it's own fat.
    4. Cut the Sprouts in half and add to the bacon.
    5. Add the Nuts.
    6. Fry and mix together for 5 minutes.
    7. Put the Sprouts , Bacon & Nut mix into an oven proof dish.
    8. Roast in a preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the sprouts have a crispy skin.
    9. Season with Salt & Pepper to taste
