Meatloaf Recipe

Cowbridge Kitchen

Meatloaf is like an American institution, a popular recipe that has many different variations. In fact you can season a meatloaf any way you like.

The one thing that seems to be constant with any meatloaf recipe is that it is always topped with a sticky tomato sauce.

Meatloaf is a great way to combine rich herbs and flavours with minced beef to make a cheap roast. The Meatloaf is formed in a tin, hence the name 'loaf' and topped with a tomato sauce.

Meatloaf can be served as a Sunday Roast with a rich Roast Gravy.

    How To Make Meatloaf

The meatloaf originated in the USA in the late 1870's. It was around the same time as the newely invented meat grinder appeared on the market. It was also a great way to produce a cheap cut of meat that tasted delicious.

There are varieties of meatloaf in many different cuisines around the world, but by far the most popular is this American Meatloaf.

In this recipe we use minced beef, but you could use minced lamb as well.
